Hazardous & Toxic Waste Management & Clean-up

Course Description

This course aims to highlight the impact of hazardous industrial waste on the environment, ways it is being collected, its identifiable sources, types, characteristics and methods of storing. In addition, it aims to shed light on the transfer and safe disposal processes it should undergo. As well as, to identify the environmental laws and good governance practices. The reduction of hazardous materials and replacing them with less harmful ones to maintain the integrity of the human environment is also covered. The course also discusses the specifications required for poisonous gas emissions and methods used for the disposal of hazardous solid and liquid waste materials. It moves on to describe ways to develop a comprehensive management plan for the prevention of hazardous industrial incidents, and how to restrict industrial specification to mitigate the environmental impact of hazardous wastes

Course Objectives, to:, j

  1. Shed light on the processes of natural disasters in general.
  2. Study the underpinning scientific principles of both natural hazards (eg hurricanes, storms and tornadoes, flooding, landslides, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis and radon gas emissions) and human-induced disasters (eg terrorism, explosions and oil tanker accidents).
  3. Cover the reduction of hazardous materials and also discusses the methods used for the disposal of hazardous solid and liquid waste materials.
  4. Describe how a comprehensive hazardous waste management system could be achieved.
  5. Review of both international and national hazardous and industrial waste laws and policies in Saudi Arabia.
