Profile

Professor of Environmental Geology and faculty member at the Faculty of Earth Sciences (FES), King Abdulaziz University. I received my early education in Los angeles, California, USA between 1982 and 1987 which dramatically helped to raise my English fluency to native level. Then I came back to Saudi Arabia along with my family and continued my basic schooling years until I finished high school in 1997. The following year I joined FES, KAU for my undergraduate studies and got my Bachelor degree with the Second Degree University Honourship in Engineering and Environmental Geology in the summer of 2001. During my undergraduate studies I received several rewards and certificates for my academic and cultural achievements on both the faculty and university levels. For example, I was honored as the ideal student of the faculty for two consecutive years. On University level, I was chosen to represent FES and KAU on a number of events such as the seventh international visit for students from Gulf countries in the kingdom of Bahrain in 2000. After graduation I worked at FES as a Demonstrator for two years prior to traveling to Norwich, England in 2004 on a scholarship to continue my higher education studies (M.Sc and Ph.D). During my stay in the UK and aside from my studies I participated in several scientific and cultural activities and was honored to be appointed as the Chairman of the Saudi Society in Norwich for two years in 2006 and 2007. I Graduated in January 2010. My hobbies include reading, traveling and I really enjoy scooper diving.

Research Interests

My research interests are mainly related to topics in environmental geology and Geohazards especially waste management and recycling. I am also interested in site selection for suitable areas to construct waste treatment facilities using GIS as well as the selection of suitable areas to build landfill sites. I am also involved in studying the behavior of polluted soils and ways minimise their negative effects on the environment.

Scientific interests

Beside my research interests in environmental geology and Geohazards, I am currently concerned with studying the negative effects of current practice in waste management on global warming and possible means to mitigate these effects.
